About GBC

The Georgia Business Council (GBC) is a statewide business organization focused on advancing the growth, competitiveness and long-term sustainability of businesses across Georgia. Building on more than five decades of experience, the GBC works with corporations, government entities and small business partners to strengthen business capability, expand access to opportunity and support more competitive, resilient supply chains.

Our mission is to strengthen Georgia’s business community by connecting small businesses to opportunities, enhancing their ability to compete and fostering partnerships that drive success.

Through its programs, partnerships and convening role, GBC serves as a platform where small businesses align priorities and access resources to grow, remain competitive and integrate into supply chains.

Our History

Established in 1975 as the Atlanta Regional Purchasing Council, the organization was founded during a pivotal period in Georgia’s economic and civil rights history, when business and civic leaders were working to expand access to opportunity and strengthen participation in the state’s growing economy. A coalition of corporations—including AT&T, The Coca Cola Company, Cox Communications, Delta Air Lines, Georgia Power and MeadWestvaco (now Smurfit WestRock)—came together to help open doors for businesses to participate more fully in corporate supply chains.

As demand for broader business engagement increased, the organization expanded its reach statewide. Through its affiliation with the National Minority Supplier Development Council (NMSDC), the Council gained access to nationally recognized certification standards, programs and a nationwide network that connects Georgia-based businesses to opportunities beyond the state.

With more than five decades of impact, the GBC has earned recognition  for its sustained leadership and measurable results. The GBC has received multiple Council of the Year honors—including in 1984, 1991, 2009, 2018 and 2022—reflecting its commitment to strengthening business capacity, advancing supplier readiness and expanding access to opportunity.

Today, operating under its legal business name, the GBC builds on this legacy through a broader, integrated approach to business growth across the state. The GBC prepares businesses to compete, scale and sustain growth in supply chains. By convening corporate leaders, small businesses and community stakeholders, the GBC continues to create pathways to opportunity, strengthen connections and drive long-term impact for businesses throughout Georgia.
